What I Wore: Electric Boho

"A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it's the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it's the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about. A piece of magic is a hat."
-Martha Sliter

Well, hello!
Have we met?
I've been telling everyone this very thing from the start.  How many times must I tell you--yes, you!--that you are a hat person?
Got that?
In unison,
"Roger that."
OK, I'll step off of my hat box now.

Picture it--
Soho. David Burke Kitchen garden and treehouse bar for Restaurant Week here in New York. Crab & tomato gazpacho, grilled branzino with quinoa and roasted carrots, finished with raspberry sorbet. Three courses for 25 buckaroos. Steal, Lucille. That's the standard shtick for the official New York Restaurant Week, which allows me to gorge for two weeks straight, living like the queen I wish I could be every day of the year. Again, 25 bucks. Wallet--NOT waist--friendly. The weather felt nothing short of divine. A small breeze with warm sunshine and temperatures that rested in the 70s. Yes, when I chose the word "divine," I wasn't just going for cheeky. Feeling the vibe of said 70s as well as the actual wind (thank goodness!) whip around me, I chose to go along with the set-up that nature AND my restaurant reservations had created for my day.

"It isn't what I do, but how I do it.  It isn't what I say, but how I say it, and how I look when I do it and say it."
-Mae West

I'll be enjoying my weekend at the historic Green-Wood Cemetery, commemorating the 237th Anniversary of the American Revolution's Battle of Brooklyn, which occurred on August 27, 1776. The Battle of Brooklyn was actually the first battle fought after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Looking at the numbers of soldiers, it was the largest battle of the entire conflict. As the British began firing down hard upon American troops in New York, the army fled to their defenses in Brooklyn Heights. In an effort to prevent further losses, George Washington led the Continental Army in a retreat in the middle of the dark night by way of the East River to Manhattan. As we're all aware, we may have lost that particular battle, but good 'ole George and the boys pulled through with a glorious victory, forever changing the existing world.

Today includes indulging the history geek in me and participating in and observing costumed re-enactments, rifle firing, parades, monologues, exhibits, and tours. Let me be transparent, I'm hoping the participating part includes the rifle, really.

And, you might have guessed...
this kind of girl thinks it's another perfect day for a hat...
with a rifle in hand or not.
