Walkin' in My Shoes: Night(s) at the Museum(s)

I've been a busy, busy girl.
That kind of girl, you know.

Not that kind of busy--come on, now. Have some faith.
But, I MAYYYYYY have been in Las Vegas for a bit.
I'll save those stories for a rainy day, though.
Plenty of material exists...brace yourself.

In general, I don't always include my daily escapades here. Perhaps, I'm afraid that people find it boring? I'm not entirely sure, but as thrilling and even unbelievable as my life can be and the absurd situations that I find myself in regularly, I take pleasure in moments of adventure, wonder and curiosity. I discover necessary solace in moments like those. As wonderful as it can be to share these explorations with someone else, I attempt to schedule some much-needed alone time. It's a time to reflect and move at my own pace, do something for myself other than grabbing a cheap manicure prior to a social outing.

But, recently, just to name a few:
J.P. Morgan Library and Museum
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Brooklyn Museum and John Paul Gaultier exhibit
Riverside Church and General Grant's Tomb
Brooklyn Tabernacle
Nature Hike through Prospect Park
Don't fret- I'll be sharing photos and highlights from these+MORE in the upcoming weeks. I'll refrain from overwhelming and/or boring you to death, darling, with too much information. Baby steps, right? We're making progress.

Revisiting or even viewing these for the first time (Eek! How have I not been there yet?!)  these landmarks and culturally significant institutions has become increasingly important to me. Embracing this city (and outside of it as well) and the thousands upon thousands resources, sights, and experiences it offers has trumped many of my other priorities or so-called. Make the time. Schedule it and don't back out. As a habitual flaker--sorry family and friends- you're all aware and thank you for standing by me and continuing to support me in this difficult struggle--life always seems to charge in and detain me from all of my noble plans and super interesting prospective hobbies. But, if it is in my planner, then by George (who is HE anyway?!), I'm going to fight for that penned-in event.

I've been researching more affordable nights and/or special events at both the major and lesser-known institutions around New York City. Many offer one-time parties, social gatherings, film showings, and live music if you have a few minutes to glance at their calendars. On Friday nights, the New York Historical Society, MoMA, the Museum of the Moving Image, and the J.P. Morgan house all offer free or pay-what-you-wish hours.  When most New Yorkers gear up for another wild night full of shenanigans, no doubt, after a heinous work week, these museums are now packing in visitors when they'd typically be entertaining crickets.

Two Fridays ago, I strolled to The MET after an appointment on the Upper East Side. Surprisingly, it always offers pay-what-you-wish admission but "suggests" $25 a person. FYI, that's not required of you. Most tourists don't realize this and automatically pay the full recommended amount when they're rung up at the entrance. That's appropriate, I suppose. But, as a resident of the city and someone who enjoys patronizing the arts and cultural institutions, I don't always pay that suggested amount. I pay what's appropriate for my time and motivation for attending. I planned on staying there in this instance for about an hour to check out the New American Wing as well as to listen to the country western band scheduled to play. Onlookers clapped, many couples and cutie-pie children alike danced, and it was such an overall lovely evening. My very own personal night at the museum, if you will.

I could use a few more of those, by the way. I  savor "date nights" with that special someone I adore but am not always incredibly thoughtful of...

MYSELF.

I'll share a few essentials to roaming the city, comfortably and chicly--
Style doesn't have to be sacrificed to the education gods in the name of seeking culture.

The BREAK-IT-DOWN:
When I'm trotting around, looking overdone simply isn't cute or logical. A long shoulder/cross-body bag that fits a notebook, a cozy cardigan, statement necklace and ring (this girl needs her jewelry!), topped off with a vintage hat and finished with some funky leopard, walkable shoes. I could have chosen some flat riding boots, but these are surprisingly supportive. And hey, this old lady craves her animal print.
Easy breezy, like I said.

Catch you later.
I'll be (walkin') around.
Who knows what adventure (& shoes) I'll be into.

I mean, I did just win a hundred buckaroos on a nickel slot machine.
