Talking (Spring) Flings, Slips, & Things
Chronicle Books LLC
Ok, so we all understand that I do, occasionally, enjoy writing about anything from the weather to my furchild's demonic capabilities to issues of a much more serious nature. But, now, I can keep the word count to a minimum, at least for personal reasons, with this wonderfully thoughtful "one line a day" book when writing for personal reasons. Write anything, something interesting or unique (good, bad, or just plain bizarre), that differentiates today from yesterday and tomorrow. This particular style above chronicles five years' worth of day-to-day happenings. Mind-blowing, right? Five years ago, do you remember that day when your idiot friend Dave invited you to some gallery opening, and you sat all night in a corner chatting and taking photos with Lindsay Lohan and some Yankees players? I do...I mean, what?!

Now, you will. And yes, we were all much cooler five years ago. If you had documented it, you'd be able to properly mourn your transition from wild and free to responsible adult whose life-threatening hangovers occur after those three glasses of wine at a business dinner or happy hour.
Grab one of these memory books HERE and HERE. Write something worth holding onto.

Welcome to life. Now, we can all reflect and celebrate each day as a separate and incredibly unique entity.

I'm envisioning concocting "today's line" in a sunny park somewhere. That's quite a lovely scenario, right? And, what about a stroll or a bike ride there?

girls on bikes, riding a bike, wearing a backpack on a bike, slips ons and bikes, slip on flat shoes and cute backpacks

For that, in fashion terms, I'm feeling:

Stylish Backpacks--
Backpacks offer plenty of room for my latest books and notebooks in tow for reading, writing, and doodling on a day off from work. I'm serious. Stop thinking L.L. Bean or Northface. Shhh, I actually owned an orange Northface backpack throughout highschool. Yes, orange. Stop judging-they were very cool. Backpacks have made a resurgence, and they're not your nightmarish ones from middle or highschool.  I've recently purchased two: one sporty, double strap polka dot by lululemon, and a second, woven boho one-strap by Joan & David.
Here I am, ten years later, once again donning a backpack!
Surprisingly though, these are chic, and why didn't I think of this? Functional! Yes! So, even on the craziest of days, zipping from work events to date nights or simply to the gym, I no longer must tote around a purse AND a "work bag" with extras such as tennis shoes, flats (Hey! We ladies must do this here in New York City if we want to survive our days with our toes attached), workout clothes, planners, and laptops. I'm the epitome of a "bag lady." My shoulders ache. I pop Tylenol for the aches like an 80-year-old. Anyway, no more huge duffles weighing me down or double trouble bag days.
Fling one on. Ahhhh, now, doesn't that feel like 5th period all over again?

Comfy and Cool Slip-Ons--
Slip-ons seem to be reigning once again these days. High-end designers are reinventing the style made famous--well, by my standards--by my beloved VANS. Yep. These are re-done, re-configured, adult (I think?) VANS.

Slide In. The water's fine in these easy-come, easy-go flats.
They're a walk or ride! or skip! in the park.

I paired a few favorites of each and separated them into
Chic Neutrals & Eccentric Brights combinations:

Valentino, French Connection, Elizabeth and James

And, you guessed it...there's more, ma'm.

Speaking of peddling around, for the holidays I was gifted an annual Citibike pass (mentioned HERE in my "Holiday Round-Up"), which gives me access to any of the thousands of commuter bikes across the city and Brooklyn. I'm a little terrified at the prospect of riding through Manhattan's screeching and honking traffic--CORRECTION: my mother practically tremors at the idea...perhaps, I didn't have the best of luck as a child. Although Citibike enforces time limits that require you to return the bike to a station and re-check it back out, riding 30-45 minutes on a day out of a feel-good-movie, will prove to be quite a relief and an activity I'm dorkily excited about. The commute just became a little more scenic and aerobic, eh?

I'm on a bike kick(stand!), clearly.
Get moving with these wheeley inspirations below.
I've even included a doggie cart add-on!
How cute would Blanche and I be zooming around town with her in that thing?!

Sloane, Burley, Romwe, Triple Eight, BC Footwear

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything if you want things.
