What I Wore: Lady is a Vamp

Yes, spring.

As of this moment, Pharrell and I have two things in common:

We don large hats, and we're both irritatingly happy.
Irritating, like I said.

Last Sunday, despite the continuing rain, I went to see Patina Miller's last performance in the Tony-winning revival of "Pippin" with another dear theater friend-o-mine. She originated the role of Deloris Van Cartier (the lead) in the Broadway production of Sister Act, and Miller went on to win a Tony for best actress in a musical for "Pippin." The girl is goooood. Every single person  was on his and her feet, cheering and pounding their hands together. You must see it, if you haven't done so already! Although, it won't be quite the same without the two original leads (Miller and Matthew James Thomas), I'm confident the humorous and acrobatics-filled musical will forge ahead beautifully. Keep your eye on Miss Miller. She's on the brink of appearing everywhere.

The rain ceased, though. A few days this week, I saw a light somewhere above the pit of this deep dark winter well. Help is on the way! The sun has been shining, and the temperatures have risen above a high of 40 degrees. I think I'm awake, I think I'm awake...?

I decided to hurry up and post these last few photos of chilly weather outfit inspiration.
We're moving on, right?...

So, this particular ensemble began with the MIDI. I love the darn MIDI.  FYI, that's the latest "it term" referring to mid-length, if you were left in the dark on that term.
MIDI is everywhere right now.

Hemlines are going down for the count. Mini no 'mo.
They're poplockin' and droppin' like it's hot...er, COLD, in New York's case.
Alright, I'm done indulging my (not-so) gangster.

Mid-length skirts and dresses fall below the knee but hit the ankle/shin area or directly above it, varying on the style and shape. This length was the star of many runway shows for this season as well as for next fall and winter. It's here, there, and everywhere for the foreseeable future. I purchased this wonderful-albeit dangerous!-winter white version, which can be utilized in any season. But, wear with caution. I've finished evenings with dinner on display for everyone else to gawk at. I surely could use one in black...wine...fine, I'll take one in every shade. It's a year-round piece after all!

Think ladylike, conjuring such images of the feminine 40s and 50s. Personally, I viewed and am now fawning over a more updated Katharine Hepburn look. Ahhh, to emulate the great Kate but with a bit of flare--

Apologies, but NO Applebee's buttons AKA "flare" will be donned.
A shiny broach, though, I can and will pin on quicker than you can say, "more ketchup, please."

Beginning with the skirt, I tucked in a paint-splatter-patterned (say that tongue-twister three times!) crop top, which also features a BAM! back opening. Backs are today's cleavage. I support this wholeheartedly and will flash you with flesh of that kind any day.

And for "flare?" I slipped on some fabulous python stilettos, a bejeweled statement necklace, cutout gold cuff and bling-y bracelets, and threw on a neon green beanie, just to keep it a little more casual.

Need more polish or feel like taking this outfit into the evening? Exchange the crop top for a dressier blouse and ditch the beanie. A silk black top or even a matching winter white would be tres chic for a night out to dinner and a show. OK, I realize that we're not eighty years old, but you get it.
Get classy, yo.
This lady is a vamp...not a tramp.
